The Children Matter Conference on 18th November at the Millennium Stadium was a real success and our thanks go to all who made it a great day; speakers and drama group, workshop organisers, the regional Children’s Service Development Workers, and Millennium Stadium staff.  Particular thanks goes to Emma Harris, whose organisational skills made the day run so smoothly.

We heard from Keith Towler, Children’s Commissioner for Wales, who spoke about how domestic abuse infringes on the rights of children and contravenes the UNCRC.  Helen Mary Jones AM, talked about the importance of services that meet the needs of children affected by domestic abuse and David Spicer, LLB, gave us a canter through the legal and policy drivers for protecting children and examples of children affected by domestic abuse from Serious Case Reviews.   The Gorwel Forum Theatre gave us a valuable insight into what it is really like to live with domestic abuse on a day to day basis.  Many thanks to Osian and the young people of Gorwel for a very powerful piece of drama.

Powerpoints slides from the Children’s Commissioner’s presentation and that of David Spicer are below.
