WWA supports Welsh Government's 6 Nations Domestic Abuse Campaign

Communities Minister, Carl Sargeant launched a campaign today (3rd Feb) to tackle the increased levels of domestic violence that occur around the time of major sporting events such as the Six Nations rugby tournament.

First Minister launches Christmas domestic abuse campaign with WWA's support

Today (5th December), the Welsh Government launched their Christmas campaign to tackle domestic abuse. The launch took place in Cardiff City Centre, where a giant Letter to Santa was set up to raise awareness of the detrimental effects of domestic abuse on children and young people. This is the second stage of the Welsh Government's "Live Fear Free" campaign to tackle violence against women in Wales.

"Domestic abuse is a hidden problem but it affects so many women and children in Wales - the statistics are shocking. We are proud to support Welsh Women's Aid in their vital work supporting women and children. Women's Aid Groups in Wales

Local Women's Aid groups in Wales can support you (and your children if you have any) with refuge accommodation and women who work for groups can also provide face to face support in the community - this is often described as 'outreach' or 'floating' support.

Many groups also have information centres where you can drop in and have a chat with women from the group about your situation or that of someone you know.

Women's Aid Groups in Wales

Refuge - Supported accommodation for women and children who need a safe place to stay as a result of Domestic Abuse. Access to the refuges is 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

Outreach & Floating Support - clients are allocated a worker who develops Individual Support Plans with them that provides for or links to appropriate services and promotes their emotional well-being.

Freedom Programme - The FREEDOM programme is a 12 week programme providing information about domestic violence and abuse to women, open to any woman who wishes to learn more about the reality of domestic violence and abuse.

Support for perpetrators - If you're concerned about your own behaviour contact Respect

Women’s Aid groups also offer counselling services and support for women with complex needs such as issues with alcohol & substance misuse
