WWA supports Welsh Government's 6 Nations Domestic Abuse Campaign

Communities Minister, Carl Sargeant launched a campaign today (3rd Feb) to tackle the increased levels of domestic violence that occur around the time of major sporting events such as the Six Nations rugby tournament.

First Minister launches Christmas domestic abuse campaign with WWA's support

Today (5th December), the Welsh Government launched their Christmas campaign to tackle domestic abuse. The launch took place in Cardiff City Centre, where a giant Letter to Santa was set up to raise awareness of the detrimental effects of domestic abuse on children and young people. This is the second stage of the Welsh Government's "Live Fear Free" campaign to tackle violence against women in Wales.

Volunteering Opportunities

  • Torfaen Women’s Aid  Trustee and Volunteer Vacancies. Torfaen WA is a local charity based in Cwmbran which provides services and support throughout Torfaen to women (and their children) experiencing Domestic Abuse. We are seeking committed and motivated women with a genuine interest in Domestic Abuse issues for the following volunteer vacancies: Trustees (approx 6-10 hours per month): Our Trustee Board is responsible for the strategic direction of the organisation, legal compliance, and financial oversight. Applicants must be willing to be actively involved in shaping the organisations’ future and able to attend monthly meetings as a minimum. Experience is not necessary although we particularly welcome applications from women with expertise in marketing, finance, housing, law, management, or with personal experience of Domestic Abuse. Volunteers (min 4 hours per week): Based in our Information Centre (IC) you will be the first point of contact for enquiries whether by phone or in person and will support the IC Worker in publicising and coordinating our services. Applicants must be good team players, friendly, good communicators and able to demonstrate empathy.
