The EHRC are currently conducting a Formal Inquiry into disability-related harrassment, whereby they will examine the experiences of disabled people, their families, friends and carers, as well as examining whether those who have experienced harrassment have been supported or not by public authorities.

WWA Campaign for a Violence Against Women Strategy for the Welsh Assembly Government

Welsh Women's Aid has been campaigning for a Violence Against Women Strategy for many years and recently we have written to all AMs, MPs and Councils Leaders in regards to the benefits of having a violence against women strategy.

Welsh Women's Aid have been campaigning for a Violence Against Women strategy for many years and recently we have written to all AM, MP and Councils Leaders in regards to the benefits of having a violence against women strategy.

WWA have called on the Assembly Members to support our campaign for the Welsh Assembly Government to develop and implement an integrated strategy on Violence Against Women based on the foundations of gender equality and human rights.

The campaign is supported by Women’s Voice, Amnesty International Wales, Equality and Human Rights Commission, National Federation of Women’s Institutes, MEWN Cymru, NUS Wales Women’s Committee and New Pathways to name just a few.

To date all the Assembly Members who have returned their questionnaires have supported our campaign and the letter that was sent to the AM can be downloaded below.

In 2007/08, WWA member groups accommodated 1505 women across Wales in 45 refuges and 3 self contained accommodation units. This was an increase of 22% on figures for 2006/07. A further 1338 children were accommodated, 10% of whom were on the Child Protection Register.
