Violence, abuse, bullying: an untold story of disabled people living in Wales

The EHRC are currently conducting a Formal Inquiry into disability-related harrassment, whereby they will examine the experiences of disabled people, their families, friends and carers, as well as examining whether those who have experienced harrassment have been supported or not by public authorities.

Important: Sojourner Project - Extended until 17th September 2010

The Sojourner Project is for women with no recourse to public funds, who entered the UK on a spousal visa and are eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) under the Domestic Violence Rule.

OVERVIEW

Welsh Women’s Aid offers this training which is Accredited by the National Open College Network to raise awareness about the complexities of domestic violence.

  • To identify what domestic violence is;
  • Consider the myths, the effects on victims and the impact on their life chances along with the types of services that are offered in Wales.

Welsh Women’s Aid has over 30 years of experience in working with women and children who are or have been victims of domestic violence.

AIM : To gain knowledge and understanding of domestic abuse

THE TRAINING:

The Domestic Violence Awareness Training is a one day course designed to:

  • Raise awareness of Domestic Violence
  • Understand the impact and effects of Domestic Violence

It aims to enable those who work in the social sectors  to understand the impact of domestic violence and learn what provisions are available to help support victims in Wales.

THE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

This course is a Level 3, single Credit, Open College Network Accredited Course.

It has three learning outcomes:

  • Understand various forms and effects of domestic violence
  • Know how social construction and stereotypes relate to domestic violence.
  • Understand the impact of domestic violence.

The course accounts for a total of ten hours learning.

Candidates will need to attend a day’s training and compile a portfolio of evidence for submission and assessment.

This course is linked to the Qualifications and Credit Framework Wales.
